In the last segment we took a look at 5 excellent ideas for free incentives you can offer to get people to buy through YOUR affiliate links. Today we’ll pick up right where we left off…
1.6 Free Products – This idea is related to the ‘Cash Rebate’ incentive we spoke of in part 2, except it works with just about any affiliate program offer, not exclusively for recurring billing programs. The idea here is to “up-the-ante” by adding value to the affiliate program’s offer…
You didn’t really think the “offer” your customers will bite on is strictly based on what’s on the sales page for the product you’re promoting, did you? Learn this truth right here —-> Affiliate program success isn’t up to the product owner, it’s up to YOU. You are the wheels that turn the big machine. You are the fuel that keeps the motor running. You are the one in charge of your success or failure. Don’t ever forget that.
The offer that the owner of the affiliate program places on the table doesn’t have to be the one that arrives in front of the eyes of your contacts. Remember, you want an advantage. You don’t want your contacts to see the same thing that every other affiliate’s contacts see. You are going to be different, because you have an incentive. Same affiliate program product or service — different offer.
You see, when someone buys XYZ product through your affiliate link, they are going to get something more than just the XYZ product. You will have put together an ‘exclusive free product’ that raises the value of the purchase, thereby changing the offer entirely.
Let me give you a *real life* example so you can see how you can apply this yourself…
Let’s suppose you are promoting Ray Johnson’s Clickbank Stealth that shows folks how to launch a record breaking product on Clickbank. The product sells for $80.00 and you earn 50% commission on any sales generated: Approximately $40.00 per sale.
Now ask yourself: “What does every clickbank vendor need once they’ve launched their new product?” Leads, sales, and affiliates, right?…
So you could offer an ‘additional package’ of products (which can ONLY be gotten from YOU) that caters to showing CB vendors how to recruit affiliates, generate leads, tweak their sales copy, tracking & testing, and more! The possibilities for this one are truly endless!

By offering free products with the purchase of the affiliate product, you will actually be able to sell more units because of your advantage over other affiliates. You can grab a larger share of the market because of the value you’re adding to the offer — which ultimately is going to increase your sales and profits. Put together a package of products that has *true value* and could sell on its own and watch what happens.
1.7 Free Training – Are you an “expert” in any particular field? Are you very knowledgeable when it comes to a specific function/feature of a product or service you are promoting? Do you have special insight into a certain aspect of an offer you can promote?
If so, why not offer the incentive of “training” to get more sales and affiliate commissions? Like for instance, a one-on-one consultation for anyone who buys a particular product or service through your affiliate link. You’ve got several options here…
* Live chat sessions – You can hold once a week training sessions live via a chat room at any of a gazillion places online. Visit your favorite search engine and search for “chat’ to find a whole slew of options. Why not provide ongoing training sessions that are exclusively available for those who buy through your referral? This is especially helpful for folks who are wanting to buy and sell products with resale rights — you can provide weekly strategies for building their businesses, covering different topics each week.
NOTE: This would also be a great forum for recommending other affiliate programs as you mention specific needs.
* Messenger services – With MSN Messenger and Yahoo and ICQ and an entire fleet of other “live” services, you can be available to answer questions for your customers on an “as-needed” basis. When you are online and can answer questions — simply turn your messenger system on and they can contact you with help issues.
* Email consultation – Another great way to provide consultation is to allow your customers to email you with any questions that they might have. They send their questions and you respond with an answer.
* Telephone – Last but not least, I know folks who actually provide a telephone number for their customers to contact them anytime they have questions. These tend to be folks who are promoting high-ticket items, but it could apply to any product or service. Sure, a lot of these are support related issues that the owner of the product or service will provide. HOWEVER, nothing adds value quicker to an offer than for the potential customer to know that YOU are there for them anytime they need you — that they have someone they know they can turn to if they need some guidance.
You’ll find that this can add a lot of CREDIBILITY to the offer and take away some of the hesitancy that many people have. And, from my experience, the number of folks who actually take advantage of your training isn’t a very large percentage. It DOES add a tremendous value to the offer, though, just to have the reassurance that a safety net is there.
Don’t want to deal with folks one-on-one? No problem. Why not offer some training MATERIALS (instead of training SUPPORT) as your incentive…
* Email tutorials – You can offer a free weekly newsletter that is exclusively for folks who buy a specified product through your referral. This would include ongoing answers to frequently asked questions, helpful hints and new ideas for using the product or service they ordered.
HINT ——-> This would also give you an opportunity to setup sponsorship ads for each issue and make additional product recommendations for more profits on the “backend.”
How about a set of training tips via autoresponder? Each day — or every 3-5 days, a new tip is automatically distributed to your affiliate customers. Again, this adds value to the offer by providing something that no other affiliate is offering. Here are some examples of this in action…
“When you join Aweber through this link, you’ll receive our exclusive 10-Lesson eCourse: “How to Use Autoresponders To Automate Your Business and Skyrocket Your Profits In Less Than 30 Days.” Every three days, you’ll automatically receive a brand new lesson that will teach you how to use the Aweber mailing system to put your business on remote control and build new profit streams.”
“I’ve put together a training series of 7 “action steps” that anyone can use in order to recruit new affiliates for any reseller program. If you order S.A.L.E.S. A.R.M.Y. Secrets through my affiliate link below, I’ll give you the training series at ZERO COST TO YOU.”
Do you see the idea here? You can setup your own incentive training for ANY affiliate program product or service. It’s an unbelievable opportunity to further enhance the existing offer by adding your own bonus that is exclusively for YOUR customers.
* Digital tutorials - You can take the same concept and simply create an eBook out of your information. Allow the customer to send you their receipt for the purchase and you immediately give them download information for the eBook. There are dozens of ideas here, including…
“10 Highly Effective, Tested Ways to Build Your Downline” for anyone joining an MLM through your referral.
“12 Super Strategies To Convert Browsers Into Buyers” for anyone who buys guaranteed visitors or any kind of traffic generating product /service.
“The Ezine Publisher’s Profit Manual: How to Sell More to Your List” for anyone who joins a list-building service or orders an eBook or software on list building.
Do you see how effective this can be as an incentive? And did you notice that in each of the examples above, the free eBook ENHANCES the product or service that the customer ordered. It makes it BETTER. It IMPROVES the offer. It adds value to the purchase.
Think about it — wouldn’t someone who joins an MLM want to have some additional tested ways to build their downline? That’s the first thing they would want to do, recruit new members!
What about someone who brings in traffic to their website? Wouldn’t they naturally want to know how to make the most of that traffic and sell more of their offer(s) to those visitors? Of course they would!
And anyone who is interested in building a list certainly wants to profit more from that list. These are perfect fits for their respective products — and they are incredible incentives for getting folks to buy through YOUR affiliate link.

SIDEBAR: Many people have taught (including myself!) that you should give away free eBooks and eCourses in order to generate leads to “presell” the reader on whatever product or service you are promoting. While this is a very effective method of promoting your favorite affiliate program, there is another way… Now that you know how to create ebooks and ecourses, its time to begin offering this incentive NOT as a lead generator in an attempt to presell the reader to a sale, but rather as an incentive to convince them to buy the product you are promoting in the first place! With the proper presentation of your incentive (more on that in an upcoming segment), there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to have folks begging to buy your recommendation in order to get their hands on your bonus!

* Audio tutorials – Audio tutorials have a higher perceived value than eBook tutorials. So, why not record your training tips and strategies and share them in a downloadable audio file? You can grab some free software at download.com to get the job done.
Because of the large size of audio files, I’d recommend that you limit your recordings to no more than 15 minute sessions. This can actually be a selling point. After all, “10 free audio tutorials” *sounds* like much more than 1 audio tutorial — even though the information and time may be exactly the same.
Same concept as your digital tutorial would apply for audios. And if the product or service you are promoting pays a high enough commission to justify it, you could *really* add value to the offer by providing the audio tutorials on compact disc for the customer to listen to anytime from their home or vehicle. With duplication costs under $1.00 per completed CD and burners under $100.00, this could be an idea worth exploring. Or, you could even have the entire thing professionally duplicated at under $3.00 per compact disc.
Do you see any other affiliates offering compact disc audio training? Hmmmm…
* Video tutorials – Taking it to the ultimate training incentive would be a video tutorial. It’s a fact that people learn the best and the quickest if they can SEE someone actually walking them through the steps. It’s much easier to duplicate something if you can visualize it, as opposed to reading about it or hearing it explained.
Screen cam videos created with software such as Camtasia are becoming more and more popular online. This would have the ultimate incentive value to customers: “Wow, a free 5-video tutorial set showing me how to apply these strategies from the ebook! Sign me up!”

1.8 Private Members Area – Okay, now THIS is exciting!… Let’s say you take your free ebook and turn it into an audio / video series, then you compile the information inside a PRIVATE MEMBER’S ONLY site. In other words, you setup a member’s site that you have password protected and the only folks who can get in and view the content are the ones who order the product that you are recommending.
In other words, you put together a ‘mini-members area’ that you GIVE AWAY…Or take things further by filling it with eBooks and eCourses and reports and articles and videos and write a powerful sales letter that makes the person WANT IT MORE THAN THEY WANT THE PRODUCT YOU ARE PROMOTING! (We’ll talk about how to present your offer in an upcoming segment.)

SIDEBAR: Think of the potential here: Every eBook, every eCourse, every report, every article — can all be used to promote other offers on the “backend”. This member’s area can be stocked full of goodies, but those goodies can be used to bring in even more profits for you! Offer eBooks that can be customized with YOUR affiliate information. Most affiliate programs offer these. Setup eCourses that promote other affiliate program products and services. Visit FreeAffiliateArticles.com to find articles you can post in the member’s area and link to the author’s affiliate program. What a backend!
I also want to point out that you should ONLY include high-quality, useful materials in your private member’s only area. Don’t setup a pitch-o-rama in there where you have nothing but glorified sales letters. That’s a NO-NO. You want to provide high-quality materials that the member can actually use. Sure, you can make additional offers in the content — but the content better be good!

So, you’ve got this Private Member’s Only area setup. And you begin offering it for FREE to anyone who buys whatever product or service you are promoting as an affiliate. Now, that can be a powerful incentive if you do it right. Powerful. If you put it together with high-quality materials and write a compelling sales letter (yeah, a sales letter for a FREEBIE — we’ll talk later on this), then you should be able to see a sharp increase in affiliate commissions from your efforts.
Why? Because folks would be WILLING to buy the private membership on its own merits — and to get it for free by making an additional purchase is just too good to pass up…two great programs for the price of one?!
But why not just put together a Private Member’s Only site and SELL memberships? Mainly because (a) There are many of them out there to compete with that have thousands of dollars in high-ticket items included, (b) If you use free eBooks, reports, articles, etc. — most of the authors allow you to GIVE the materials away, but not sell them. (c) Chances are, by giving away memberships to increase affiliate commissions, you’ll be the only affiliate making such an offer and can generate easy sales!
Here’s another great thing about this idea ——> You can use the Private Member’s Only site to PROMOTE DOZENS of offers! Think about it. Let’s say you put together a member’s only site that is focused on “web marketing.” There are HUNDREDS of affiliate programs you could promote by giving away the membership as an incentive! Just setup different pages (more on this later) for the various offers and begin driving traffic to them. You do the work once and get paid for it for life!
1.9 A Product / Service Bundle – A friend of mine has worked this one to perfection. In fact, he is the TOP SELLING affiliate in 3 different affiliate programs because of this strategy! And what he does better than anyone I know is using ‘bundled incentives’ to create affiliate sales. Let me give you a typical example of how he does this:
Let’s say he wanted to promote a new list building product. Here is an example of an ad that he would publish in his newsletter…
“I’ve just gotten word that a proven list building system has been released to the public! This is the closest thing you can get to an actual one-on-one meeting with a list marketing expert without spending hundreds or even thousands on a personal consultation.
And, since his offer is so crazy, I decided to make it even crazier…
When you purchase this course by Clicking Here: <he inserts his affiliate link here> then I’ll throw in 1,000 free leads to your website (to help start building your list) and a free copy of my brand new eBook, “How to Earn a Full-Time Living Online In 3 Easy Steps.”
Plus you’ll also be getting my *personal* email address so you can contact me directly if you have any questions or need help understanding anything. After you make your purchase, just send me your ticket number and I’ll get your free bonus offers out to you immediately – no hassles.”
Do you see how this works? He offers a few bonus items to the mix (that won’t cost him a penny!) and immediately he has created an exclusive offer that is found nowhere else online.
*Note it doesn’t cost him a penny because he already owns the eBook that he created and he owns a service that provides free leads in exchange for a contest that he runs (more on creating exclusive offers below).
Bottom line ===>>> Bundles are a great way to offer a VALUABLE incentive to generate more sales. The best part about this one is, that ANYONE can put together a tremendous incentive offer – even if they DON’T have their own products, by simply bundling a few related items together.
Take Brenda’s new package for example…she has bundled nearly ALL of the free product ideas we’ve spoken of into ONE AWESOME PACKAGE that has her visitors rushing to hit the order button just to get the bonuses! She’s got digital tutorials, multi-media trainings, live coaching, AND free membership sites – it really is an excellent value.
And there’s no reason you can’t do the same thing by putting forth a little effort. And don’t worry so much about starting with a giant package… maybe some of the ideas in Part 2 of this series would work best to get you going. But either way DO plan on spending some time implementing what you’ve learned here as it can really pay off handsomely (…right, Brenda? =).
1.10 Your Own Exclusive Product – By far and away the BEST free incentive you can offer is your own exclusive product(s) that you SELL to the general public.
I’m not going to spend a lot of time here, either you have your own product to offer or you don’t. If you do then my hat’s off to you. The greatest advantage you can have is to offer something that’s only made available by YOU – and especially something everyone else has to PAY FOR. We’ve seen super affiliates’ bonus packages consisting of every single product they own – now that’s an unfair advantage!
BUT – If you don’t have your own unique product, then may I suggest a ’shortcut’…
The idea is to put together an eBook filled with useful information — usually from a mixture of plr articles and your own added comments — then put a price tag on it and set it up to sell through a service like Clickbank or even Paypal…
Then turn around and offer it FOR FREE as an incentive for anyone buying a specified product or service through your affiliate link. Be sure to link from your offer page to the product’s sales page – but tell your readers “NOT to buy it at the sales page because they get it FREE through your affiliate link below.”
These kinds of eBooks are easy to put together and can actually be created in less than an hour.
Another angle is to GIVE AWAY the eBook as a lead generator and then offer FREE CUSTOMIZATION of the eBook as the incentive. Or you can take things a step or two further and turn your ebook into an audio training or even VIDEO tutorials!
Either way, you need an incentive. You need to create an offer. An irresistible offer. This is your chance to completely separate yourself from the competition and gain YOUR unfair advantage! So go ahead and get started putting together an incentive package that no one else has and be ready for the next segment where we’ll talk about the “presentation of your incentive”, which is JUST as important as the incentive itself.
